Memories and Imagination

My first journey into creating a story, through a sequence of images this project was one where I started examining my memories and how it had been affected by the trauma of my brother death. My subconscious went about forgetting and protecting me only letting me remember very specific things.

As I held my childhood pictures in my hands, in the tenderness of my “remembering,” I also knew that with each photograph I was forgetting.

I was slowly forgetting the physical being that was my brother and the trauma surrounding his death only allowed me to remember the manner in which he died. We see the absent before us vividly within photographic images and can weave memory stories about them, the very clothes they wear, the objects that surround them, places of importance for them. Photographs act as signifiers to past experiences and events, they are a direct timeline to them .
